The Importance of Play

I am not sure exactly where it came from or why we received it, but midweek last week, we received a harmonica in the mail. Upon opening that package, we both discovered that we could have so much fun with that little instrument. We had to run some errands so we brought it with us on our car ride. With no regard for who was watching, we took turns playing and acting quite silly. There was no purpose to our play, but it brought us an abundance of joy.

As adults, there are times that we forget how truly important play is for our well-being. We may not even understand the ways in which play is an integral part of discovering our joy and happiness. Without play, we are more prone to sadness, depression, and fatigue. This week, I invite you to wholeheartedly give yourself time to explore doing something fun without any purpose. Play away, my friends!

Visit | For our 12-year wedding anniversary, Jeremy and I visited Locavore Farm in Grant Park (about 40 minutes south of Homewood) for a delicious 5-course Dine on the Land dinner. It was a phenomenal experience. We hope you will give it a try too.

Try This | The next time you are questioning what comes next… Take a breath. Feel it in your body. Your body already knows what it needs. Trust it. Exhale.
