Nostalgia

The world is not always a happy place. And there are times I find it easy to become consumed with some of the negativity that surrounds us in news broadcasts, discourse in real life, and on social media. That is why, I truly believe that so many of us are finding joy in nostalgia at this moment.

From the Barbie movie to the revival of fashion from what seems like almost every decade, I feel that there is a little something for everyone to help bring us back to childhood and remember what it is like to feel a bit more carefree.

Just last week I came home for just a short amount of time to spend an hour with Jeremy. We turned on ’90s music and just danced our hearts out and belted out all of the lyrics that we somehow still stored in the back of our brains. Just a little nostalgia went a very long way in helping us both connect to one another and to our inner children.

Think back to something from your childhood that brought you a smile. Embrace it. Love it. Have some fun, and let that nostalgia support you in your mindfulness journey.

Inspire | “Give up waiting as a state of mind. When you catch yourself slipping into waiting, come to the present moment. Just be and enjoy being.” Eckhart Tolle

Listen | An “oldie,” but a goodie, Shake It Out by Florence and the Machine is one of my favorite songs to listen to on a tough day. Turn up the volume and dance out the sadness.

Try This | Struggling to prioritize your own wellness or goals? Try tripping over what you want to do. If you intend to practice yoga, meditate or cook, put a physical reminder (like your yoga mat) in your way so you cannot miss it as you walk by.
