As we move toward the end of May, let’s pause to breathe, reflect, realign and practice mindful awareness. Here are eight gentle ways to weave mindfulness into your days:
🌼 Smell the Flowers | Literally. Pause on your walks to inhale the scent of blooms and let it draw you into the present moment.
☀️ Feel the Sun | Stand still for a few breaths and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin—let it be a reminder that you are supported and nourished by nature.
🍓 Savor Seasonal Foods | Eat slowly and notice the flavors, colors, and textures of seasonal fruits and vegetables as a way to honor your body and the earth.
🌳 Touch a Tree | Place your hand on the bark of a tree, close your eyes, and breathe. Let yourself feel rooted and connected.
🕊️ Soften Transitions | Whether it’s getting out of bed or ending your workday, take three conscious breaths as you shift from one activity to the next.
📓 Evening Reflection | At the end of your day, jot down one moment that made you smile or feel grateful—it doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful.
💧 Hydrate with Presence | Each time you take a sip of water, pause to acknowledge the gift of hydration and the life it sustains.
🙏 Dedicate Your Practice | Whether it’s a full class or just a few stretches, begin your yoga or meditation with a simple dedication—this intention will carry you through.
May this season of light remind us all to slow down, soften, and savor the beauty unfolding all around and within us.
Inspire | “If we practice yoga long enough, the practice changes to suit our needs. It’s important to acknowledge that the practice isn’t meant to be one practice for everybody. The beautiful thing about yoga is that there are so many different approaches. As we go through our life cycles, hopefully we are able to find a practice that suits us. And if you practice yoga long enough, that will change many times. What exactly that looks like is going to be different for each person.” Tiffany Cruikshank
Read | If you’re looking to deepen your understanding of the mind-body connection and explore how emotional well-being influences physical health, I highly recommend The Healing Self by Deepak Chopra and Rudolph E. Tanzi. I have been reading this book slowly and thoughtfully and am enjoying the little nuggets of wisdom buried in each section.
Try This | Did you know that smelling flowers can relieve stress and anxiety and may promote feelings of calmness by shifting the body into a parasympathetic state of rest and digest? The next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a short walk to a nearby garden or even pause by a blooming tree on your street—breathe in slowly, let the scent wash over you, and notice how your body softens with each breath.
