Have an Emotional Day

This week, a client shared something deeply moving with me. In the midst of grieving a profound loss, a friend gently encouraged her to “have an emotional day.” Not a productive day. Not a strong day. An emotional day. And something about that felt like medicine—for her, and for me too.

We often move through life managing, coping, doing… but not always feeling. True healing asks us to make space for the full spectrum of our emotions—not just the joyful or polished ones, but the tender, messy, aching ones too. Our yoga practice reminds us that presence is powerful. When we pause, breathe, and soften, we give ourselves permission to feel what is real.

So, if you need it, I’m passing this invitation along to you: give yourself permission to have an emotional day. Let your heart open, your tears fall, your laughter rise. Let it all move through you—without judgment, without needing to fix anything. Just feel. It’s one of the most honest things we can do.

Inspire | “When we learn to open to our emotions rather than resist them, they become the very gateway to freedom.” Jack Kornfield

Listen | Feelings by Claraty offers a soothing blend of ambient sounds and introspective melodies, making it an ideal accompaniment for emotional moments of reflection and inner peace. This calming tune is perfect for helping you deepen your connection to breath and movement.

Try This | Pause for a moment and take a deep breath, gently bringing your awareness to the emotion you’re feeling without trying to change or judge it. Silently name it—anger, sadness, joy—as if you were observing weather passing through the sky. Remind yourself, “This is a feeling, and like all things, it will pass.”
