On Saturday, I woke up in a less-than-optimal mood. My emotions were running high, and, as a result, small inconveniences felt like enormous hurdles. In those moments, I didn’t need to be reminded to cheer up or pretend that I was fine.
What I needed was to be honest about how I felt and to allow those emotions to make their way through my body. It was not easy to do, as I was about to teach a class, but I owned my emotions honestly and did not try to be anything that I was not in that moment. After class, I went for a long walk in the autumnal sunshine and allowed myself to feel what needed to be expressed and experienced.
Sometimes, there is a push from society to be happy all of the time, to feel better quickly, and to experience “good vibes only,” but the truth is that as a human, we are meant to experience the full range of emotions and to allow those feelings to move through us (thus e-motion… energy in motion). This week, I invite you to allow yourself to experience your feelings honestly as they move through you. Note how you feel from moment to moment with mindful awareness and openness to the full range of the human experience.
